The Buchan Music Department is a busy and thriving department that is renowned on the Isle of Man. Pupils have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments and join choirs and ensembles as well as having stimulating class lessons. We provide a comprehensive Music education which begins in the Nursery School and continues through Buchan Pre-Prep and Prep Departments and on to King William's College.
The Music Department consists of three full-time teachers including the Director of Music, a music coordinator, music assistant and a team of peripatetic teachers who offer lessons in piano, singing, guitar, flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, viola, cello, cornet, trumpet, euphonium and percussion.
There are some instruments available for hire if needed.
Tuition fees are charged termly with an average of ten 30 minute lessons per term. King William's College is a centre for ABRSM practical examinations and each term pupils take exams up to Grade 5 standard.
The Buchan School Drama department thrives on enthusiasm and inventiveness. Each form follows a year plan to involve them fully in all aspects of theatre, mime, movement, drama, improvisation and speech, culminating in pupils participating in English Speaking Board examinations and the Manx Music Festival. We have a fully equipped "Little Theatre", where mini-productions are staged or rehearsals planned before major productions.
Stagecraft is an extra curricular activity held once a week when all students are welcome and have the unique opportunity of mixing with all ages, allowing even the youngest pupil to practise being a budding actor. Again all aspects of the craft are explored and pupils are able to gain confidence and use their imagination to the full. Pupils work towards an end of term production to showcase their talent.
